I did some research, particularly on the All Saint's Day and came up with this history from History.com.
The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, Celts thought that the presence of the otherworldly spirits made it easier for the Druids, or Celtic priests, to make predictions about the future. For a people entirely dependent on the volatile natural world, these prophecies were an important source of comfort and direction during the long, dark winter.
After an initial look at the history of Halloween night, leading into All Saint's Day, I was obviously concerned that I was tuning in to some things in the spiritual realm that perhaps I should not. However since that time, after relating to my spiritual leaders, I have found that God has assured me that he is God and sovereign, even on this night. As of yet I have not found a historical basis for God’s visitations on New Year’s Day other than his desire to share his heart and demonstrate his love.
The revelations I experience on these nights are by no means comprehensive, neither are they the full revelation of what God has to say to us; instead that are only small pieces of the puzzle of what God is doing in the earth. Scripture states in 1 Corinthians 14:29 that when a prophet speaks, “others should weigh carefully what is said.” Practically this means that what God has to say through the life of one person may have no bearing in the life of another; while for another, the word may resonate in their spirit as God calls them to partner with Him practically in bringing about God’s will on earth as it is in heaven.
Also, a prophetic person’s prophecy is not guaranteed to happen; it requires faith, obedience and seeking God to come about. Our desire is simply to seek God and to partner with him in seeing his Kingdom come in this realm in increasing measures.
As you read these experiences, be open to all that God may say to you through them. If you don't feel God is speaking anything specific to you through them, that's ok too!
Most importantly, be open to all the ways God desires to speak to you! Whether through that still small voice, through others in your community, through the word of God, or through more dramatic experiences such as dreams, visions and other experiences; God desires to meet with you daily!
